What will we do? We'll drive out to the Ocoee River in Tennessee to go rafting on America's most famous section of Class III-IV whitewater, take a relaxed tubing excursion on the river, and go hiking in the woods. We'll have a cozy Friday night Shabbat experience around a campfire and go back to Emory Saturday morning in time for orientation programs. What are the accommodations like? We will be staying in a nice lodge, located on 13 acres in the foothills of the Georgia Mountains. Rooms are fully equipped with beds and linens. There are volleyball & basketball areas, nearby river, and a beautiful view. To learn more, visit www.ocoeeriversidelodging.com Who is leading it? A member of Emory Hillel staff, who is an experienced trip coordinator, will run the trip with trained student leaders, and a certified EMT. When are we going? We depart Thursday, August 21 in the morning and returning Saturday, August 23 at noon. We'll be traveling in cars together. When do I move into my dorm? Once confirmed as a participant on our trip, you will need to sign up for early move-in. All students will need to be on Emory's campus by 5:00 pm on Wednesday, August 20. Students are allowed to move in on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., which allows participants in our program to move in before the craziness of regular move-in. If you are looking to ship belongings prior to arrival, please visit Emory Housing's shipping website at http://www.emory.edu/HOUSING/UNDERGRAD/ship.html. Sounds great! How do I sign up? Register by July 25. Click here to download an application form. Send the completed form to HOOT@emoryhillel.org. Once you have registered AND received confirmation, submit payment online above, or make checks payable to Emory Hillel, 732 Gatewood Rd., Atlanta, GA 30329. After you have been confirmed as a participant on this trip, you will receive information about early move-in online registration. You must complete on-line move-in registration by July 25. Call 404-712-9063 with questions. What can parents do before orientation? Parents are invited to a special Friday night Shabbat dinner on campus with other early arriving students, parents, and Hillel staff. Details to follow. *For students interested in a Shabbat observant retreat experience, check out the Hillel Shabbaton, planned for late October. Contact Rob Bernton via LearnLink. |
